CAMi: the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis
CAMi is a new way to think about a museum: a contemporary art campus, authentically collaged from Indianapolis’ industrial and agricultural past, focused on making art experiences accessible and relevant for future generations.
Located just south of downtown Indy, in the heart of a historic neighborhood and emerging cultural district, CAMi is anchored by a newly renovated 40,000-square-foot former industrial building, transformed into a contemporary art museum and community hub.
This $7 million project — which opened in May of 2026 — offers six galleries for commissioned exhibitions by artists from around the world, a performance and event space, art studios, nonprofit offices, storefronts for creative businesses, as well as a café and culinary arts area. Jungclaus-Campbell is serving as the General Contractor on the restoration of the building (the former Tube Processing factory), which has included extensive structural and masonry repairs, installation of a new roof, significant renovation to the interior, and exterior improvements including new doors and windows. Blackline Studio is the architect.
This is part of a five-acre campus that includes 18 affordable homes for local artists (plus three homes for visiting artists), a second industrial building (Tube Factory, in use since 2015) for exhibitions and cultural programs, an arts-focused community FM radio station, and a sculpture park with a greenspace and amphitheater for performances.
